Lamb Shanks in Red Wine Sauce (Recipe)

Braised meats or stews are one of those comfort food that you read about or see on the food channel when winter comes or when the weather is cold. Yeah well, we don’t have any of that in the perpetual summer that is Malaysia. BUT IS THAT GOING TO STOP ME FROM MAKING IT? Nope.

What I love most about this recipe is that it yields a show-stopping centerpiece that everyone enjoys. Soft, meltingly-tender chunks of lamb falling off the bone without even the slightest nudge sitting in a hearty sauce. What’s not to love? For such a large dish, it really requires minimal effort. All you have to do is chop up some vegetables, sear the meat and dump everything into a crockpot to be forgotten for the rest of the day. Only 30-45 mins of prep work in the morning, and you’ll have a fabulous dinner ready at the end of the day, it really is that simple.

myBurgerLab @ Seapark, PJ

Venusaur

So, on a Thursday evening we decided to get some burgers for dinner at myBurgerLab Seapark. When we got there at about 7.30pm, the queue was only starting to build up and we managed to make our orders in about 20 minutes. The downstairs seating area was rather small and a large group was being quite loud so it was hard to hear one another. However, the spacing between tables was adequate and didn’t feel cramped at all.

Can you believe that myBurgerLab has been operating since 2012 and I have never set foot in the Seapark (OG) outlet before? Then again, although I have burger cravings, I don’t particularly go for MBL. Don’t get me wrong, I love MBL but a lot of times it’s not entirely accessible or I’m just too impatient to queue.

Zok Noodle House + KOI @ SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands

7 Spices fried tofu (RM7.90)

A day after my birthday, the partner and I decided to take a trip up to Genting (mostly due to free rooms being available). Genting really upped the ante in terms of food offerings since SkyAvenue opened, a wide range of local and continental cuisines being available. That being said everything, literally EVERYTHING is more expensive in the Highlands so the prices are not reflective of any branches/franchise outlets that are available back in KL. We arrived quite early in the morning and checked in before hunting for a lunch spot. Not wanting anything too heavy (on the stomach and on the wallet), Zok Noodle House was a pick.

Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies (Recipe)

When I’m in a foul mood, I feel like baking. Today was one of those days, probably aggravated by my cold. Raided the kitchen and gathered some ingredients to make cookies because I didn’t have ingredients for other things and was too lazy to knead and proof bread dough.

Did some searching on Pinterest to find an interesting yet easy cookie recipe and fell in love with the photos on Cloudy Kitchen. Whipped out my electric mixer and started browning the butter. Brown butter is truly a magical ingredient and literally takes 5 minutes (not including cooling time). Tip: Allow all ingredients to be at room temperature for optimal combining effects.

Pier 12 Seafood Tavern @ Old Malaya, KL

I don’t think Old Malaya is a very well known place: I’ve never seen or heard just about anything about this colonial-esque complex. Situated along Jalan Raja Chulan, under the shadow of KL Tower is a small strip of bars and restaurants. My family and I visited Pier 12 Seafood Tavern at the far end of Old Malaya for my birthday earlier this week (happy 24th, me) after discovering it on The Entertainer. The Entertainer is a ‘subscription’ that allows you to get Buy 1 Free 1 deals off menu items at partner restaurants. Maybe I’ll blog about my Entertainer experience another time.

Classic Bolognese Sauce (Recipe)

Okay, so here’s my first official post to kick start the blog with. And what better way than with a homemade recipe? Makes a big batch, freezes well for any time you need a good plate of pasta, and is relatively easy, this is my bolognese sauce recipe.

Anyway, you know how all the Bolognese sauce recipes on YouTube say stuff like “quick Bolognese” or “easy Bolognese”? Yeah, those videos usually get blasted by Italians for not being authentic or made the traditional way. As much as I like easy cooking, this recipe takes a little more effort to get REALLY good (and clean-tasting) Bolognese. I tried my best to keep it as traditional as possible.
